 Article 1 (Purpose)
The purpose of this Act is to provide for matters concerning the registration of ships pursuant to Article 8 (4) of the Ship Act.

 Article 2 (Scope of Application)
This Act shall apply to every steamship and every sailing ship with the total tonnage of not less than 20 tons, and every lighter of not less than 100 tons: Provided, That the same shall not apply to a lighter installed fixedly on the surface of water for use as ship mooring and storage under the main sentence of subparagraph 4 of Article 26 of the Ship Act.

 Article 3 (Matters to be Registered)
Registration of ships shall be made for the establishment, preservation, transfer, change, restriction on disposition or extinction of the rights enumerated under any of the following subparagraphs:
1. Ownership;
2. Mortgage;
3. Lease.

 Article 4 (Registries Having Jurisdiction)
As for the registration of ships, the district courts, the branch courts thereof or the registries, which have jurisdiction over the ports of registry for the ships to be registered shall become the pertinent registries.

 Article 5 (Provisions to Apply Mutatis Mutandis)
The provisions of Articles 4 through 6, 8 through 13, 14 (2) through (4), 16 through 20, 22, 23, 24 (1) 1 and (2), 25 through 33, 48, 50 through 59, 63, 64, 66 (1), 67, 74 through 98, and 100 through 111 of the Registration of Real Estate Act, shall apply mutatis mutandis to the registration of ships. <Amended by Act No. 4422, Dec. 14, 1991; Act No. 10580, Apr. 12, 2011; Act No. 10797, Jun. 15, 2011>
 Article 6 (Provisions Concerning Delegation)
Matters necessary for the enforcement of this Act shall be stipulated by the Supreme Court Regulations.

ADDENDA
(1) (Enforcement Date) This Act shall enter into force on the date of its promulgation.
(2) (Transitional Measures) Registration of ships made before the enforcement of this Act in accordance with the existing provisions shall be considered as having been made in accordance with this Act.
(3) (Idem) Registration prepared prior to the enforcement of this Act shall be considered as the registration pursuant to this Act.
