 Article 1 (Establishment)
Korea Army Academy at Yeongcheon shall be established in the army, to provide education necessary to train military officers.

 Article 2 (Term of Course)
The term of course for Korea Army Academy at Yeongcheon (hereinafter referred to as the "Academy") shall be two years.

 Article 3 (Qualifications for Admission)
Any person who intends to gain admission to the Academy shall satisfy the following requirements: <Amended on Dec. 13, 2022>
1. He or she shall be an unmarried person who is aged not less than 19 but less than 25: Provided, That if he or she constitutes a veteran under Article 16 (1) and (2) of the Support for Veterans Act, the upper age limit on admission may be increased, as prescribed by Presidential Decree;
2. He or she shall not be subject to the grounds for disqualification listed in Article 10 (2) of the Military Personnel Management Act;
3. He or she shall have graduated from a junior college or have any other equivalent or higher academic background (including a person who has completed at least a second-year college course);
4. He or she shall meet the physical requirements prescribed by the Academy regulations.

 Article 4 (Curriculum)
(1) The curriculum of the Academy shall be classified into the course of military studies and the course of non-military studies, and the details thereof shall be determined by the Minister of National Defense, but the course of non-military studies shall be subject to consultation with the Minister of Education. <Amended on Mar. 23, 2013>
(2) The curriculum referred to in paragraph (1) shall be sufficient for granting degrees. <Newly Inserted on Dec. 23, 2019>
(3) With respect to the course of non-military studies under paragraph (1) and facilities therefor, the provisions of the Higher Education Act concerning universities and colleges shall apply mutatis mutandis. <Amended on Apr. 23, 2019>

 Article 5 (Appointment of Superintendent)
(1) The Academy shall have public officials (including persons in military service and civilian employees; hereinafter the same shall apply) including professors, other than the superintendent, as prescribed by Presidential Decree.
(2) The superintendent shall be appointed by the President on the recommendation of the Minister of National Defense from among general-level military officers who are nominated by the Army Chief of Staff. <Amended on Mar. 21, 2017>

 Article 6 (Qualifications for and Appointments of Professors)
(1) With respect to the occupational categories of and qualifications for those in charge of the education of non-military studies, from among professors and other public officials under Article 5, Article 16 of the Higher Education Act shall apply mutatis mutandis.
(2) From among those in charge of the education of non-military studies under paragraph (1), professors and associate professors shall be appointed by the President on the recommendation of the Minister of National Defense, assistant professors by the Minister of National Defense on the recommendation of the superintendent, and assistant instructors by the superintendent. <Amended on Jul. 21, 2011>
(3) The President may delegate his or her authority to appoint professors and associate professors under paragraph (2) to the Minister of National Defense, as prescribed by Presidential Decree.

 Article 6-2 (Provisions of the Educational Officials Act Applicable Mutatis Mutandis)
A person in charge of the education of non-military studies, who is not military personnel or a civilian military employee, shall be a public official in special service, and Article 11-3 of the Educational Officials Act shall apply mutatis mutandis to the term of such person’s appointment, and the Educational Officials Act and the Special Act on the Improvement of Teachers’ Status and the Protection of Their Educational Activities shall apply mutatis mutandis to remuneration, training, guarantee of status, disciplinary actions, and appeals. <Amended on Feb. 3, 2016>

 Article 7 (Appointments of Graduates)
Any graduate of the Academy shall be appointed a second lieutenant.

 Article 8 (Conferment of Bachelor's Degree)
Any graduate of the Academy shall be conferred a bachelor's degree. In such cases, the types of degrees and other necessary matters regarding the conferment of degrees shall be prescribed by Presidential Decree.

ADDENDA <Act No. 2703, Jul. 21, 1974>
(1) (Enforcement Date) This Act shall enter into force on the date of its promulgation.
(2) (Transitional Measures concerning Transfer) Students who are enrolled in the Short-Term Military Academy pursuant to the Decree on the Short-Term Military Academy and in the Flight Academy annexed to the Air Force Education and Training Command under the Decree on the Air Force Education and Training Command, as at the time this Act enters into force, shall be transferred to the Short-Term Military Academy established under this Act.
(3) (Transitional Measures concerning Qualifications of Graduates) Any person who is transferred to the Short-Term Military Academy provided for in this Act under paragraph (2), or any person who has graduated from the Short-Term Military Academy pursuant to the Decree on the Short-Term Military Academy (limited to a graduate of the said Academy who has fully completed the two-year course thereof after graduating from a high school or possessing any other equivalent or higher academic background) before this Act enters into force, is qualified as a junior college graduate. <Amended by Act No. 3112, Dec. 5, 1978>

(1) (Enforcement Date) This Act shall enter into force on January 1, 1979.
(2) (Transitional Measures concerning Qualifications of Graduates) With respect to any person who has graduated from the Short-Term Military Academy before this Act enters into force and thus has been qualified as a junior college graduate, Article 8 (2) shall apply.
ADDENDA <Act No. 3342, Dec. 31, 1980>
(1) (Enforcement Date) This Act shall enter into force on the date of its promulgation.

(1) (Enforcement Date) This Act shall enter into force on the date of its promulgation.
(2) (Transitional Measures) Instructors and assistant instructors in service as at the time this Act enters into force shall be deemed appointed pursuant to this Act.
ADDENDA <Act No. 3596, Dec. 31, 1982>
(1) (Enforcement Date) This Act shall enter into force on January 1, 1983.
(2) (Transitional Measures concerning Students) Students enrolled in the Short-Term Military Academy at the time this Act enters into force shall be deemed enrolled in the course of military cadets pursuant to this Act.
(3) (Transitional Measures concerning Graduates) Any person who has graduated from the Short-Term Military Academy before this Act enters into force shall be deemed to have completed the military cadet course pursuant to this Act.

Article 1 (Enforcement Date)

ADDENDA <Act No. 4838, Dec. 31, 1994>
(1) (Enforcement Date) This Act shall enter into force on January 1, 1996: Provided, That the amended provisions of Article 9 shall take effect on January 1, 1995.
(2) (Transitional Measures concerning Students) With respect to the curriculum for, graduation of and conferment of degrees on students enrolled in the bachelor's course of the Short-Term Military Academy at the time this Act enters into force, the previous provisions shall prevail.
(3) (Transitional Measures concerning Assistant Professors in Service) Assistant professors who are serving the Short-Term Military Academy at the time this Act enters into force shall be deemed appointed pursuant to this Act.

(1) (Enforcement Date) This Act shall enter into force on the date of its promulgation.
(2) (Special Cases concerning Period for Recruitment of Female Cadets) The period for recruitment of female cadets to be admitted to the Short-Term Military Academy under the amended provisions of subparagraph 1 of Article 3 shall be prescribed by Presidential Decree.

Article 1 (Enforcement Date)
This Act shall enter into force on the date of its promulgation.
Article 2 (Transitional Measures concerning Former Short-Term Military Academy, etc.)
(1) The Short-Term Military Academy established in the army under the former Establishment of the Short-Term Military Academy Act (hereinafter referred to as the "Short-Term Military Academy") as at the time this Act enters into force shall be deemed the Academy.
(2) The curriculum, superintendent, professors, etc. of the Short-Term Military Academy at the time this Act enters into force shall be deemed the curriculum, superintendent, professors, etc. of the Academy.
(3) The graduates of the Short-Term Military Academy and the degrees conferred on such graduates at the time this Act enters into force shall be deemed the graduates of the Academy and the degrees conferred on such graduates.
Article 3 Omitted.
Article 4 (Relationship to Other Statutes)
As at the time this Act enters into force, references in other Acts and subordinate statutes to the former Establishment of the Short-Term Military Academy Act or the provisions thereof, if this Act includes any provision corresponding thereto, shall be deemed references to this Act or the corresponding provisions thereof in lieu of the previous provisions.
